An unforgettable experience in the Main Ridge Forest Rainforest on Tobago

A new day begins in Tobago as we set off at 6am for the Main Ridge Forest Rainforest. Accompanying us is our guide Brian “Alibaba” Taylor (Alibaba Tours, Castara) who will show us around the rainforest and its inhabitants. The anticipation of the upcoming adventure is great as we set off.

After half an hour we reach the rainforest, where untouched nature already awaits us. We enter the rainforest and immediately feel the humid air and the sounds of the animals. Alibaba leads us safely through the narrow and slippery paths of the rainforest. In between it starts to rain, which makes the hike even more challenging. But with the help of our experienced guide we master the difficult passages and always feel safe. The wooden sticks we looked for at the beginning of the hike will also prove to be good companions and support. During the hike we discover a variety of plants and colourful birds that fascinate us. We enjoy the spectacular view of the Caribbean and are overwhelmed by the beauty of the rainforest. But the best is yet to come when we reach the waterfall. Here we can refresh ourselves in the clear water and forget the exertions of the hike. It is an unforgettable experience to bathe in the middle of the rainforest and experience nature up close.

The whole hike takes about four hours and at the end we feel not only physically but also mentally refreshed thanks to our guide. The return trip to “Alibaba’s Sea Breeze” in Castara gives us another opportunity to review the experiences of the day. We are grateful for this unforgettable experience and will certainly visit Tobago and the rainforest again soon.

Tobago consists to a large extent of protected rainforest. Far away from the tourist paths it is still possible to observe birds, snakes and other typical animals in their natural environment. With this one-day island tour you get a great impression of Tobago and can end the day with a relaxed bathing stay.

In the morning at 8:30 am you will be picked up at the harbour of Scarborough for this island tour. Afterwards you drive directly to Fort King George in the capital. From this point you have a wonderful panoramic view of the harbour and the cruise ship.

Afterwards it goes by minibus along the beautiful Atlantic coast to Roborough. Before you go, make a stop at a cocoa plantation with a very good chance to observe the “Tobago Amazone” – parrots in their natural environment. On the beautiful plantation you will learn the little secrets of chocolate.

From there through our protected rainforest area to the Caribbean coast – you also get a great impression of the unique rainforest. Englishman’s Bay is a bay where the jungle stretches to the beach – where you can swim and snorkel (depends on the weather!). In the beach restaurant there is then a delicious local food. Then we continue along the Caribbean coast towards the southwest of Tobago, through beautiful valleys, mountains and villages such as Castara, Moriah, Arnos Vale, Plymouth, Mount Irvine, Buccoo etc..

Experienced nature guides will show you the most beautiful sides of our versatile fauna and flora. An approximately two-hour stay at Pigeon Point with cocktail bar and water sports (not included in the price) will crown the end of the day on Tobago.

Then they’ll be taken back to Scarborough Harbor.

The pick-up at the port takes place at 8:30 am.

Tobago impressions with following bathing stay

Especially for a shore leave for guests from a cruise ship, the organization must be perfect and the day intelligently planned. Get an impression of Tobago in a compact excursion and round off the day with a swim.

The old fortress Fort King George with a view to Scarborough and the harbour is our first stop. From there over the centre of the island to Plymouth, Fort James, old Caribbean wooden houses and typical village impressions. Afterwards panoramic drive along the coast with Turtle Beach, Black Rock, Stonehaven Bay to Mount Irvine Beach – this beach is ideal all year round for discovering our underwater world.

The beach is an insider tip and very little visited. On the way back to the harbour you will see caimans (smallest alligator species) and some bird species in their natural habitat on the area of Tobago Plantations.

This excursion departs from Scarborough harbour at 9:00 am.

Even though Tobago is quite a small island in the Caribbean – a trip has to be well planned. Guests of a cruise ship in particular do not usually have time to give away during their shore leave and depend on good organisation. We would like to recommend this excursion to lovers of classic Caribbean motifs and exciting underwater world.

With this tour you discover and experience the protected and largest coral reef “Buccoo Reef”, the “Nylon Pool” (sandbank) as well as the “coral gardens” in the southwest of Tobago with a glass bottom boat. There is also the possibility to snorkel and swim on the reef. Afterwards the participants can relax on the beach for 2 hours. Finally we return to the harbour.

The pick-up takes place in the morning at 10:30 am in front of the harbour entrance.
